Strategic employment of foreign workers

Sakae Casting, which undertakes high value-added aluminum casting, has been focusing on the strategic employment of foreign workers since 2012.

They hire foreign workers not as cheap labor but as human resources who possess the language skills and customs of the countries in which the company has overseas operations while avidly acquiring Japan’s manufacturing technologies.

A study group for the strategic employment of foreign workers that comprised volunteers from local companies (including those in the manufacturing and service industries), universities, NPOs, international associations and the government was created. They held discussions on views related to receiving foreign workers and how to overcome language barriers.

Today, the foreign national workers whom the company hired – either as direct hires or via internships of international students through collaborations with overseas universities – have become valuable assets for the company’s overseas expansion. There is now a structure in place at the company that supports six languages. Such initiatives were recognized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Sakae Casting was chosen as a Diversity Management Selection 100 company.
