The Diplomatic Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs collects, classifies, and preserves Japan’s diplomatic records and makes them available to the public for perusal.
It also exhibits valuable treaties and other historical documents from the end of the Tokugawa period to the present day. Everyone is welcome to the Diplomatic Archives to have a look.
It is also possible to read the large majority of our prewar historical documents via the digital archives of the Japan Center for Asian Historical Records, National Archives of Japan.
Diplomatic Archives will resume its operations on October 11, 2021. The Reading room will be opened for applicants as assigned on a reservation basis. Please visit our Japanese website for details.
