Intrusion of Chinese government vessels into Japan’s territorial waters surrounding the Senkaku Islands
1. Today, August 21, at approximately 10:00 am, it was confirmed that four Chinese government vessels intruded into Japan’s territorial waters.
2. Against this backdrop, at approximately 10:10 am on the same day, Mr. Kenji Kanasugi, Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, strongly protested against Ms. Guo Yan, Minister of the Embassy of China in Japan, that the intrusion of Chinese government vessels into Japan’s territorial waters surrounding the Senkaku Islands is a violation of Japan’s sovereignty and cannot be accepted whatsoever, and the fact that China is continuing to conduct unilateral activities that further raise tensions on the ground despite Japan’s repeated protests is entirely unacceptable, protesting that Chinese government vessels must leave Japan’s territorial waters and Japan’s contiguous zone immediately.
