Intrusion of Chinese government vessels into Japan’s territorial waters surrounding the Senkaku Islands
1. Despite Japan’s repeated protests, more than ten Chinese government vessels have remained in the contiguous zone of the Senkaku Islands. Today, August 9, these Chinese government vessels repeatedly intruded into Japan’s territorial waters surrounding the Senkaku Islands on a total of ten occasions.
2. In response to these repeated intrusions into Japan’s territorial waters, Mr. Shigeki Takizaki, Deputy Director-General, and Mr. Noriyuki Shikata, Deputy Director-General, acting on behalf of the Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, strongly protested against Ms. Guo Yan, Minister and Acting Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of China in Japan, that China’s unilateral activities that further raise tensions on the ground cannot be accepted whatsoever, and that the vessels should leave Japan’s territorial waters and contiguous zone immediately.
