Protest Against the Intrusion of Chinese Coast Guard into Japan’s territorial waters surrounding the Senkaku Islands
1. Today, August 5, at approximately 1:30 pm, following the intrusion of Chinese fishing vessels into Japan’s territorial waters surrounding the Senkaku Islands, it was confirmed that Chinese Coast Guard vessels entered the above territorial waters, navigating around the aforementioned fishing vessels among other activities.
2. Against this backdrop, at approximately 5:10 pm the same day, Mr. Shinsuke Sugiyama, Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs summoned Mr. Cheng Yonghua, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Japan to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and strongly protested that intrusion of Chinese government vessels into the territorial waters surrounding the Senkaku Islands and activities with these waters are violations of Japan’s sovereignty, and cannot be approved whatsoever.
3. Furthermore, at approximately 3:05 pm and 4:30 pm, Deputy Director General of the Asia Oceania Bureau and the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan in China similarly protested against Minister-Counselor of the Embassy of China in Japan and the Director General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs respectively.
