Working Dinner with the Group of Eminent Persons for Substantive Advancement of Nuclear Disarmament hosted by Foreign Minister KONO


1. On March 26th, Mr. Taro KONO, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, hosted a working dinner at Iikura Guest House, inviting members of the Group of Eminent Persons for Substantive Advancement of Nuclear Disarmament (EPG).
2. At the outset, Minister KONO expressed his hope that the active discussion of the EPG will lead to a fruitful recommendation to find a common ground where all countries having differing approaches can work together towards a world free of nuclear weapons. In this regard, Minister KONO commended the discussion conducted by the EPG, based upon the success of the first meeting in November of last year.
3. The EPG members replied that they would like to conclude a recommendation, which will contribute to the efforts by the international community towards a world free of nuclear weapons. Minister KONO and the EPG members also exchanged views on the latest development of international security situation relating to nuclear disarmament and on concrete measures to steadily advance nuclear disarmament.
