  1. On March 29th, Foreign Minister Taro KONO received the recommendations of the Group of Eminent Persons for Substantive Advancement of Nuclear Disarmament (EPG)(PDF)Open a New Window from the Chair, Professor Takashi SHIRAISHI (President, Institute of the Asian Economic Studies, Japan External Trade Organization).
  2. Foreign Minister Kono expressed his sincere gratitude for EPG members’ vigorous discussion for making the recommendations, and he also expressed that these recommendations are very useful and helpful for international community which attempts to converge different approaches towards realization of “a world free of nuclear weapons” in difficult circumstances such as the recent deterioration of the international strategic environment. Furthermore, Foreign Minister Kono requested Mr. Shiraishi and the EPG members to continue their discussion as EPG in the next Japanese fiscal year.
  3. The recommendations would be input to the Second Session of the Preparatory Committee of the 2020 NPT Review Conference held in Geneva in April, 2018.
