Japan-Australia Relations

On September 18, commencing at 6:25 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit telephone talk with the Hon. Scott Morrison, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia. The overview of the telephone talk is as follows.

1. Prime Minister Abe stated that he welcomes the active exchange between the two leaders, having held meetings with one another at the G20 Osaka Summit in June and the G7 Summit in August.

2. The leaders exchanged views on the promotion of free trade, including the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and shared the view that they will continue close cooperation between the two countries.

3. The leaders wished each other’s rugby teams the best of luckOpen a New Window and shared the view that they will continue to work closely together in order to further deepen the relationship between Japan and Australia.
