Japan-Australia Summit Telephone Talk
On May 20, commencing at 3:35 p.m. for approximately 10 minutes, Mr. Shinzo Abe , Prime Minister of Japan, held a Summit telephone talk with the Honorable. Scott Morrison, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia, given the result of the Australian federal election . The overview of the telephone talk is as follows.
1. Prime Minister Abe conveyed his congratulations on the victory of the Coalition government led by Prime Minister Morrison in the Australian federal election (voting on May 18), and stated that he looks forward to continuing to work together with the Prime Minister. In response, Prime Minister Morrison expressed his gratitude.
2. The leaders shared the view that they will continue to cooperate to further deepen the “Special Strategic Partnership” between Japan and Australia and achieve a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.
3. The leaders also confirmed that they will continue to work closely to address regional issues, including North Korean issues.
