Japan-Bhutan Relations

June 8, 2026

In 2026, Japan and Bhutan will mark the milestone of 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. We expect that this occasion will serve to further strengthen diplomatic ties with Bhutan and promote mutual understanding and the further development of friendly relations. The portal site showcases diplomatic initiatives related to the anniversary and projects that have been officially recognized as anniversary commemorative events.

Application for Recognition of Commemorative Events for the 40th Anniversary

Official Logo for the 40th Japan and Bhutan Anniversary

To celebrate this commemorative year with as many people as possible and further promote exchanges between the two countries, the governments of both nations will designate various Events held in either country as anniversary events upon application. Events designated as anniversary events will be authorized to use the official logo. Application guidelines are upcoming.

The designer of the logo is Mr. MIYAMOTO Makio. He says that he intended to celebrate the 40th anniversary, and to vividly express the long-standing friendship and the ties toward the future by combining Japan's sakura (cherry blossoms) and Mount Fuji as well as Bhutan's blue poppy and dragon in a harmony with the number “40” in the centre part of the logo, and also blending the symbolic colors of the two countries.
