November 26, 2013

On June 1 and June 2, Mrs. Akie Abe hosted the TICAD V Spouses Program.

On June 1, Mrs. Abe held an international symposium entitled “Let’s talk about AIDS: Africa and Japan’s Shared Challenges.” During the symposium, active exchanges of opinions and suggestions were made on the current situation and common issues regarding HIV/AIDS in Japan and each of the African countries for preventing infections and eradicating the disease. On June 2, Mrs. Abe hosted a farm tour in Yokohama, introduced dishes using fresh vegetables grown in Yokohama at a luncheon held under the theme of “produce locally, consume locally” and promoted understanding of Japanese culture through Japanese calligraphy, tsumami kanzashi (folded fabric hair ornament) making, etc.
