1. On April 16th, Foreign Minister Taro KONO received the Kyoto Appeal ( English (PDF)Open a New Window / Japanese (PDF)Open a New Window) by the Group of Eminent Persons for Substantive Advancement of Nuclear Disarmament (EPG) from the Chair, Professor Takashi SHIRAISHI (Chancellor, Prefectural University of Kumamoto).

2. Foreign Minister Kono extended his sincere gratitude to the EPG members including the Chair for making their endeavors to compile the highly suggestive Appeal based on the vigorous discussions. Foreign Minister Kono also stated that the Government of Japan will continue to thoroughly engage in the NPT Review Process with this appeal in mind.

3. The Government of Japan would provide the Kyoto Appeal to the Third Session of the Preparatory Committee for the 2020 NPT Review Conference to be held in New York from April 29th, 2019, and intends to advocate the importance of concrete measures steadily carried out by the international community, looking towards the NPT Review Conference in 2020.
