The 21st meeting of the Committee for the Promotion of the Declassification of Diplomatic Records


1. On June 27th, the 21st meeting of the Committee for the Promotion of the Declassification of Diplomatic Records was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
2. At the meeting, the members of the Committee (PDF) discussed the declassification of diplomatic records created more than 30 years ago, including the records about the visit by Mr. Nobusuke Kishi, Prime Minister of Japan, to the United States in June 1957 and the 1986 U.S.-Japan semiconductor trade agreement.
3. Based on the review by the Committee, those records will be transferred to the Diplomatic Archives and be made public after completing necessary procedures for the release to the public.
4. In addition, the members of the Committee had a final discussion on achievements in declassifying diplomatic records and challenges to be tackled for the next two years at the meeting.(A summary of the discussion is available only in Japanese (PDF).)
