The 6th Annual Japan-UK Nuclear Dialogue

1. On 26 (Thursday) and 27 (Friday) October, the sixth Annual Japan-UK Nuclear Dialogue will be held in London.

2. Mr. Makoto Hayashi, Director of Non-Proliferation, Science and Nuclear Energy Division, Disarmament, Non-Proliferation and Science Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Professor Robin Grimes, FCO Chief Scientific Advisor will co-chair the dialogue. A range of relevant representatives of Japanese and British authorities will participate.

3. The Dialogue will discuss a range of subjects relevant to nuclear policy including nuclear research and development, decommissioning and clean up, and nuclear safety and regulation.

Background to the Annual Japan-UK Nuclear Dialogue

JAPAN-UK joint statement was issued on 10 April 2012. The ‘Japan-UK Framework on Civil Nuclear Energy Cooperation,’ which was annexed to the joint statement, states that Japan and the UK decided to launch an annual dialogue at senior level to strengthen bilateral cooperation across the full range of civil nuclear activities. The first Annual Japan-UK Nuclear Dialogue was held in October 2012 in Japan. The second Annual Japan-UK Nuclear Dialogue was held in October in UK. The third Annual Japan-UK Nuclear Dialogue was held in October in Japan. The fourth Annual Japan-UK Nuclear Dialogue was held in November in UK. The fifth Annual Japan-UK Nuclear Dialogue was held in October in Japan.
