Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida Received a Courtesy Call from the Special Representative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development of the French Republic for France-Japan Partnership


On February 9, commencing at 2:45 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Mr. Louis Schweitzer, Special Representative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development of the French Republic for France-Japan Partnership. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
1. Foreign Minister Kishida expressed hits gratitude to Special Representative Schweitzer for the warm welcome and hospitality he received from Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, when he visited France last month, and for France’s complete support for Japan regarding the murder of Japanese hostages in Syria. He also stated that, bearing in mind increasing threat from terrorism, Japan would further cooperate with France than ever in fight against terrorism based on the “exceptional partner relationship” between their two countries.
2. In response, Special Representative Schweitzer thanked Foreign Minister Kishida for expressing his condolences for the victims of the terrorisme in Paris during his visit to France last month. He stated thatJapan and France also should further strengthen their cooperative relationship following the murder of Japanese hostages in Syria.
3. They exchanged their views on the Japan-EU EPA and other Japan-France cooperation in the international arena.
