November 21, 2014

1. The Green Climate Fund (GCF) Pledging Conference was held in Berlin, Germany on November 20 (same day local time). Mr. Takayuki Miyashita, Minister, Embassy of Japan in Germany, represented Japan at the Conference and announced the details of Japan’s contribution to the GCF, based on the announcement by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Japan’s contribution to the GCF at the recent G20 Brisbane Summit.

2. Subject to the approval of the Diet, and while taking into consideration the size of each country’s contribution, the Government of Japan intends to contribute up to $1.5 billion or 15% of the total contributions. (This $1.5 billion, equivalent to 154 billion yen, is calculated on the basis of the GCF’s reference exchange rate.)

3. By announcing its pledge, the Government of Japan expects to provide great momentum to the ongoing climate change negotiations.
