Joint Statement on Contributions to the Green Climate Fund by Japan and the U.S.

  1. 1. At the G20 Brisbane Summit on November 16, 2014, Japan and the U.S. announced pledges to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), which would support developing countries in the field of climate change, and Japan and the U.S. released a joint press statement on the contributions.

    2. Subject to the approval of the Diet, and while taking into consideration the size of other countries’ contribution, Japan intends to contribute up to $1.5 billion to the GCF, and the U.S. intends to contribute up to $3 billion.

    3. By announcing pledges, Japan and the U.S. expect to provide great momentum to the ongoing climate change negotiations.
