Japan’s efforts
Japan has implemented the following measures to promote the implementation of Resolution 1540.
- Japan has faithfully implemented this resolution, including the implementation of export controls, through the enactment of relevant laws and regulations and law enforcement.
- Japan has contributed to strengthening export controls in the region through the Asia Senior Level Talk on Nonproliferation (ASTOP) and the Asia Export Control Seminar.
- In 2017, Japan contributed approximately $1 million to the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) to promote the implementation of Resolution 1540. This contribution supported capacity building in the Asia-Pacific region to implement the resolution, and also hosted a stakeholder meeting to promote the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1540 in Asia.
