International Trends Regarding the Sector

May 6, 2021

Overview

With the rapid growth of the world population and the accompanying increase in food demand, it is estimated that a 60% increase in food production will be needed by 2050. Efforts to eradicate poverty and hunger, and promote food and nutrition security and sustainable agriculture, forestry, and fisheries remain one of the biggest global challenges. Goal 1 of the "Sustainable Development Goals" (SDGs) is to "End poverty in all its forms everywhere," and Goal 2 is to "End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture," to be achieved by the end of 2030. These are just two examples of how international interest in this sector is growing.

In addition to various discussions and initiatives being conducted in international forums such as the G7, G20, APEC, ASEAN, and the Japan-led Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), active discussion of this sector is also ongoing in international forums that focus on specific regions.
