World Assembly for Women: WAW! 2022
- The Government of Japan will host the World Assembly for Women (WAW! 2022) in Tokyo on December 3.
- The WAW! is an international conference that has been hosted by the Government of Japan since 2014 as a part of its efforts aimed at realizing gender equality and advancing women’s empowerment, and this will be the sixth one. It is planned to feature discussions on various gender-related topics which have become more apparent due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the world affairs.

The main theme was “WAW! for Diversity." The conference was held in conjunction with W20. The conference was attended by 82 speakers from 27 countries and 3 international organizations, including Ms. Malala Yusufzai, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Ms. Michelle Bachelet, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and Ms. Gabriela Michetti, Vice President of Argentina as well as female foreign ministers of seven countries (Panama, Dominica, Honduras, Bulgaria, Croatia, Guatemala and Austria).
The conference focused on “technological innovation and human resource development,” “local revitalization and job creation,” “diversity in media and content that promote diversity,” “women's participation and conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and reconstruction,” “diversity and corporate management,” “the future of the family,” etc.
