Congratulatory Message from Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to H.E.Mr. Charles Michel and H.E.Dr. Ursula von der Leyen
(Appointment of the new President of the European Council and the new President of the European Commission)
1. On December 1, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe sent H.E.Mr. Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, and H.E.Dr. Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, congratulatory messages on their appointments as the new President of the European Council and the new President of the European Commission.
2. Prime Minister Abe highlighted, in the messages, that the relations between Japan and the EU (PDF) have become closer than ever before through the Japan-EU EPA and the SPA and that he reiterated Japan’s commitment to further promoting cooperation with the EU in such fields as connectivity and quality infrastructure when he visited Brussels at the end of September. Additionally, he stated that it would be a great pleasure to welcome the two leaders in Japan for the next Japan-EU Summit Meeting.
