The 4th ASEAN-Japan Counter-Terrorism Dialogue

- The 4th ASEAN-Japan Counter-Terrorism Dialogue was held on August 11
(Tue) and 12 (Wed) in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province, the Socialist
Republic of Viet Nam.
- This Dialogue was opened by H.E. Mr. Pham Quang Vinh, Assistant to the
Foreign Minister of Vietnam, and co-chaired by Mr. Kiyoshi Araki, Ambassador
in Charge of International Counter-Terrorism, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
of Japan, and Mr. Nguyen Ba Son, Ambassador, Director- General, Department
of International Law and Treaties, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam.
It was also attended by officials from Japan, all ASEAN Member States and
the ASEAN secretariat.
- At this Dialogue, Japan and ASEAN member countries reported current
status of the Japan-ASEAN cooperation on counter-terrorism and assessment
of the terrorism situation in the respective Member States and Japan, followed
by the discussion on the progress of each concrete project proposed at the
previous Dialogues. Based on these reports and discussion, Japan and ASEAN
partners conducted a candid exchange of their views and opinions about the
future cooperation in this regard.
- At this 4th round of Dialogue, ASEAN member countries reconfirmed their sincere expectation to Japan’s assistance on counter-terrorism, and each Member State particularly emphasized the importance of the Japan-ASEAN Counter-Terrorism Dialogue which has served as a valuable framework to promote practical regional cooperation in this field. The 5th Dialogue is expected to be held next year.
