On October 22, commencing at around 4:20 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, held a meeting with H.M. Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, who is visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows. The meeting was also attended on the Japanese side by Mr. NISHIMURA Akihiro, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary, and others, and on the Cambodian side by H.R.H. Samdech Preah Reach Botrei Preah Anoch Norodom Arunrasmy, Princess of Cambodia, and others.

1. Prime Minister Abe welcomed His Majesty King Sihamoni’s visit to Japan and stated, “I offer my warmest congratulations on the 15th anniversary of Your Majesty’s coronation.” Prime Minister Abe added, “I would like to express our gratitude for the messages of condolence we received from the people of Cambodia regarding the damage of Typhoon Hagibis (Typhoon No. 19).”
Furthermore, in remembrance of His Majesty King Father’s achievements on the seventh anniversary of his demise, Prime Minister Abe stated, “His Majesty King Father Sihanouk not only brought peace and development to Cambodia, but also laid the foundation for a friendly relationship between our two countries.” In addition, Prime Minister Abe noted: “Japan and Cambodia have made significant developments as strategic partners since 2013”; “Japan has always been with Cambodia on its path of democratic development. Japan will continue to extend full support for the pursuit of the even more powerful development of the nation under the unity of its people”; and “Japan has been supporting the preservation of Angkor monuments for many years and will continue such cultural exchanges and people-to-people exchanges to strengthen the bilateral relationship.”

2. In response, His Majesty King Sihamoni stated that it is a great honor to attend the important ceremony of the enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor and wished for the good health and longevity of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress. His Majesty also expressed his profound appreciation for Japan’s supports for the development of Cambodia over the years in various fields and congratulated the friendship, unity and cooperation between the two nations which is advancing year by year.
