Current Status of Implementation 2009

Niger/Ghana/Kenya/Zambia
Status
Following technical cooperation was implemented;
(i) Niger: Improvement of hygene in schools, including parasite disease control, by a school health expert
(ii) Ghana: A researcher from Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, University of Ghana, completed a long term training (2005-2010) and received PhD from Tokyo Medical and Dental University on a research on Schistosoma Mansoni. 3 JOCVs (infectious disease control) are implementing activities to promote Control of Buruli Ulcer (2009-2011).
(iii) Kenya: Assistance was provided for developing the National Guideline for School Health, and relevant activities in model schools in Coast Province.
(iv) Zambia: Joint research was conducted on the development of diagnostic systems and new drugs for tuberculosis and trypanosomiasis, including Simple and Rapid Diagnostic methods.

Status
Following technical cooperation was implemented;
(i)Niger: School Health Programme was introduced in Tahoua province.
(ii)Benin: School teachers were trained in deworming in Littoral district along national deworming programme.
(iii)Ghana: Guinea Worm Control Programme was introduced.
(iv)Kenya: Drafting of the National School Health Guideline was assisted, and third-country trainings on the school health were provided.
