(i) This project produced significant results in a wide range of proficiency in shea butter production, marketing and promotion including the cross-fertilization of the collaborative expertise of UNDP, JICA, the AFRASIA Business Council, and the Africa 2000 Network (A2N) (see details of each expertise). (ii) The project has embarked on training of women in soap production in Sierra Leone and Chad. (iii) JICA and the Ghanaian Ministry of Trade are exploring ways and means to set-up a “State of the Art” laboratory in Tamale in northern Ghana to enhance the production capacity and marketing opportunities.(iv) The project has been incorporated into the Sustainable Livelihoods Project. and UNDP continues to build on what has been achieved and benefit from the support of the Government of Japan. The JICA Training manuals for shea butter production continue to serve as the basis for various training programmes. The National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) sponsored a training session on quality and best practices on shea butter and shea soap. The Africa 2000 Network is developing a communications strategy for advocacy purposes.

(i) More than 1,000 women in the three northern regions trained through peer training by the 10 master trainers and (2) an association consisting of 17 groups (as of July 2008) was established for ensuring quality, quantity, marketing and management.
