Reception Co-hosted by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Governor of Toyama Prefecture

On October 15, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Governor of Toyama Prefecture co-hosted a reception “-Sushi. Now That's Toyama- Sharing (Osusowake) Our Bountiful Food, Culture, Nature, and Industry with the World” at the Iikura Guest House, attended by approximately 170 people, including diplomatic corps, foreign chambers of commerce stationed in Japan, business representatives and Diet Members from Toyama Prefecture. The overview of the reception is as follows:
- The reception is a program co-hosted by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and a head of local government to promote local diverse charms both domestically and internationally by inviting diplomatic corps in Japan and other guests to the Iikura Guest House. This is the 28th one.
- At the beginning of the reception, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan and Mr. NITTA Hachiro, Governor of Toyama Prefecture, delivered their opening remarks, and then, Mr. TAKEDA Shinichi, Chairman of the Toyama Prefectural Assembly, made a toast. In his speech, Minister IWAYA expressed his respect and solidarity for Governor Nitta’s unwavering commitment and dedicated efforts in leading the recovery and reconstruction following the Noto Peninsula earthquake that occurred last year. Minister IWAYA also stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been making efforts towards expanding exports of Japanese alcoholic beverages and food products, by making use of the Iikura Guest House and overseas diplomatic missions, in cooperation with local governments. Further, Minister IWAYA encouraged the participants to help promote the attractions that Toyama Prefecture is proud of, such as its cuisine including sushi, and traditional crafts, to the world.
- The reception featured booths introducing local food, Japanese sake, tourism, traditional crafts such as Takaoka copperware and lacquerware, well-being initiatives, as well as recovery and reconstruction efforts following the earthquake. There was also a stage performance of Owara Kaze no Bon dance, highlighting the diverse attractions of Toyama Prefecture.
