Signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Government of Japan and the Government of the Republic of India on the Joint Crediting Mechanism
On August 7, in New Delhi, the capital of India, a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on the Establishment of a Joint Credit Mechanism (JCM) was signed between Mr. ONO Keiichi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of India, and Mr. Tanmay Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of the Republic of India.
The signed MoC is one of the outcome documents of the Japan-India Summit Meeting held on August 29.
Through the JCM with India, Japan will contribute to the achievement of the nationally determined contribution (NDC) of both countries by cooperating in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in India, and will work toward the decarbonization of the world.
(Reference1) Joint Credit Mechanism (JCM)
The JCM is a mechanism that quantitatively evaluates Japan's contribution to greenhouse gas emission reductions and absorptions achieved through the diffusion of leading decarbonizing technologies and measures to developing countries, and utilizes such contributions toward the achievement of Japan's NDC.
As of August 2025, JCMs have been established with 31 countries: Mongolia, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Kenya, Maldives, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, Costa Rica, Palau, Cambodia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Chile, Myanmar, Thailand, the Philippines, Senegal, Tunisia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Georgia, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan,Papua New Guinea, the United Arab Emirates, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine, Tanzania, and India.
