Luncheon meeting with the ASEAN Tokyo Committee (ACT) hosted by Foreign Minister Iwaya

On July 16, from 12:00 p.m. for approximately 60 minutes, Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya hosted a luncheon meeting with ACT (ASEAN Committee in Tokyo). The following is a summary of the meeting.

  1. Foreign Minister Iwaya stated that strengthening relations with ASEAN is one of the top priorities of Japanese diplomacy. He added that Japan would like to continue to promote cooperation in a wide range of areas including GX, DX as well as fighting against online scams and create the future together by steadily advancing the Joint Vision Statement and its Implementation Plan.
  2. In response, members of the ACT expressed their appreciation for cooperation between ASEAN and Japan to date as well as their expectations for continued strengthening of ASEAN-Japan relations and bilateral relations with Japan in a wide range of fields.
  3. The both sides also exchanged views on the regional situations in preparation for the ASEAN-related Foreign Ministers' Meeting to be held in Malaysia in July. Minister Iwaya called for continued understanding and cooperation toward the immediate resolution of the Abduction issue by North Korea. Then both sides confirmed that they would cooperate closely.
