2024 IAEA Marine Monitoring

- As a part of IAEA Marine Monitoring in FY2024 to ensure reliability and transparency of the Sea Area Monitoring in Japan, experts from the IAEA Marine Environmental Laboratories will visit Japan from 7th to 15th, October and confirm collection of seawater and sediment in the vicinity of TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (FDNPS), fishery products in Fukushima Prefecture and preparation of the collected samples.
- This monitoring is conducted since 2014 with the participation of analytical laboratories from third countries as a follow-up to the recommendations made on the marine monitoring mentioned in the report issued by the IAEA FY2013 related to the decommissioning of FDNPS.
- For the enhancement of further transparency, independent third-party laboratories will participate in this year's Marine Monitoring as in previous years (this year from China, Republic of Korea and Switzerland).
