Easing of Import Restriction Measures on Japanese Food Products by Taiwan
September 25, 2024
On September 25, Taiwanese authorities announced further easing of import restriction measures on Japanese food products introduced after the accident at the TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.
- As a result, the suspension on imports of wild game, mushrooms and koshiabura (a mountain vegetable) from Fukushima, Tochigi, Gunma, Ibaraki and Chiba prefectures, has been lifted on condition that an inspection report for radioactive material and certificate of origin be attached, and the requirement to attach an inspection report for radioactive material has been removed for all food products except for those from the aforementioned five prefectures.
- Japan welcomes this measure, which follows the large-scale easing of measures in February 2022, as a further step towards the elimination of all import restrictions, and will continue to persistently call on the Taiwanese side for the elimination of the remaining restrictions as soon as possible, based on scientific evidence.
- Please refer to the website of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan for the details on Taiwan's import restrictions on Japanese food products related to radioactive materials and its review.
