Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. KOMURA receives a courtesy call from students participating in the 16th Long-Term Exchange Program for Chinese High School Students(心連心)

On Wednesday, September 4th 2024, commencing from 10:10 for about 15 minutes, Mr. KOMURA Masahiro, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from 12 Chinese students who are participating in the 16th Long-Term Exchange Program for Chinese High School Students. The outline of the courtesy call is as follows.

  1. Mr. Komura welcomed the visit of students and encouraged them to do their best, as living abroad during their youth will definitely benefit their lives. He talked about the importance of youth-to-youth exchange and expressed his expectation that the participating students will lead the future of Japan-China relations.
  2. In response, the 12 high school student representatives expressed their gratitude to those involved, their determination to actively participate in various exchange activities, and their expectations for high school life in Japan, while referring to the examples of Ganjin-wajo(Jianzhen) and Lu Xun.
  3. Afterwards, the other students also shared their hope. In the end, Mr. Komura expressed his hope that they would not forget to thank those who contribute to this Program and further deepen the ties between Japan and China.

The Long-Term Exchange Program for Chinese High School Students is an exchange program of the Japan Foundation. It was established as a part of the Japan-China 21st Century Friendship Program based on a summit agreement. Launched in 2006, the program has been developing future leaders for Japan-China relations by experiencing daily life in Japan for about a year. The theme「心連心」of the project means “Heart to Heart” in Chinese.
