On July 28th, commencing at 2:40 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan held a meeting with the Honorable Antony Blinken, Secretary of State of the United States of America, who is visiting Japan for the Japan-U.S. Security Consultative Committee (SCC) (Japan-U.S. “2+2”) and the Japan-Australia-India-U.S. (Quad) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Kamikawa stated that she would like to further deepen cooperation as the global partners to uphold and bolster the free and open international order based on the rule of law, building on the outcomes of Prime Minister Kishida’s official visit to the U.S. in April, and Secretary Blinken agreed with this point.
  2. The two ministers discussed responses to issues common to both countries including economic security and exchanged views on regional issues surrounding Japan, including the situation on the South China Sea, following the recent ASEAN-related Foreign Ministers’ Meeting which two ministers attended. Both sides reaffirmed the importance of cooperation of the two countries. The two ministers also reiterated the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
  3. Minister Kamikawa welcomed the U.S. participation in the “Friends of FMCT” once again, and both sides concurred to continue working in close coordination for the launch of the “Friends of FMCT.”
