Meeting between Foreign Minister Kamikawa and OECD Secretary-General Cormann

On October 29, commencing at 9:00 a.m., Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting (for approximately 15 minutes) with H.E. Mr. Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), who is visiting Japan to attend the outreach meetings of the G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting in Sakai, Osaka. The overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Minister Kamikawa welcomed Secretary-General Corman's visit to the international trade city of Sakai, Osaka, and expressed appreciation to the OECD for its’s contribution in various aspects throughout Japan’s G7 Presidency this year. Minister Kamikawa also stated that 2024 will mark the 60th anniversary of Japan's accession to the OECD, and expressed her desire to continue working with Secretary-General Cormann in various areas, including the OECD's outreach to the Southeast Asia region, the promotion of free trade, digital areas, sustainable and inclusive economies and societies, in preparation for the 2024 OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM), which will be chaired by Japan.
  2. Mr. Corman congratulated Ms. Kamikawa on the success of Japan’s G7 Presidency and expressed his gratitude for many opportunities given to the OECD to contribute to it. He also stated that he is looking forward to working with Japan, the chair of the MCM next year, to make it a great success.
  3. In response, Minister Kamikawa expressed that Japan will continue to contribute to the OECD's outreach to the Southeast Asia region, recognizing the importance of strengthening relations with the Global South in addressing various challenges of the international community, as clearly stated during the G7 Hiroshima Summit.
