A Courtesy Call on Mr. WASHIO Eiichiro, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, by Ms. Lydie Evrard, Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

  1. On September 9, commencing at 2:20 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. Washio Eiichiro, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan from Ms. Lydie Evrard, Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), who visited Japan from 6th to 10th of September to have meetings with relevant Japanese ministries and other representatives to discuss future cooperation regarding the handling of ALPS treated water at TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (FDNPS) .
  2. State Minister Washio welcomed the IAEA official’s visit to Japan and expressed his gratitude to all the support that the IAEA has given to Japan on the handling of the ALPS treated water at TEPCO’s FDNPS and stressed the important role of the IAEA in promoting nuclear non-proliferation and the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
  3. In the response, Deputy Director General Evrard explained outcomes of the visit.
  4. Both sides confirmed that Japan and the IAEA would continue to closely coordinate together regarding this matter.
[NOTE] ALPS-treated water

Water which are processed by devices such as ALPS (Advanced Liquid Processing System) so that the radioactive materials other than tritium surely meets the regulatory standards for safety.
