Cooperation with IAEA on the handling of ALPS Treated Water at the TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station
Visit of the IAEA's Deputy Director General to Japan

From 6th to 10th of September, IAEA officials led by Ms. Lydie Evrard, Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will visit Japan.
- This visit aims at holding meetings with relevant ministries, such as Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Nuclear Regulatory Authority, to discuss future cooperation regarding the handling of ALPS treated water at Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO)'s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (FDNPS) following the singing on the Terms of Reference (TOR) on Reviews of Safety Aspects of Handling ALPS Treated Water at TEPCO’s FDNPS in July, 2021. In addition, IAEA officials will visit the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.
- The Government of Japan (GOJ) attaches importance to the cooperation with the IAEA as a specialized agency in the nuclear field from the viewpoint of promoting understanding of Japan’s efforts in the international community and ensuring confidence and transparency of the handling of the ALPS treated water. The visit of the IAEA's Deputy Director General will contribute to further strengthening the cooperative relation between Japan and the IAEA.
[NOTE] ALPS treated water is water which is processed by devices such as ALPS (Advanced Liquid Processing System) to ensure that the radioactive materials other than tritium surely meets the regulatory standards for safety.
