Japan-Jordan Foreign Minister’s Telephone Talk

Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, had a telephone talk for approximately 20 minutes commencing at 5:40 p.m. on Thursday April 23, 2020 with H. E. Mr. Ayman Safadi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The overview is as follows.
- Minister Motegi expressed his respect for Jordan’s efforts regarding novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and appreciated the support of the Government of Jordan upon Japanese nationals’ returning to Japan. In response, Foreign Minister Safadi expressed his appreciation for the support extended from Japan and stated that he would like to cooperate with Japan with a view to preventing the spread of the disease.
- Both ministers confirmed that the Second Ministerial Strategic Dialogue on UNRWA, which was held yesterday (April 22), was quite meaningful (Mr. SUZUKI Keiske, State Minister for Foreign Affairs attended the dialogue from the Government of Japan).
- Both Ministers shared the recognition that it would be of great importance to prevent from further destabilizing the Middle East region as a consequence of the impact of COVID-19, and Minister Safadi expressed his expectation for Japan’s role in this regard. They also shared the view to continue to work together for addressing the regional and international challenges.
