Japan-Kazakhstan Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On October 19, commencing at 1 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.E. Mr. Mukhtar Tleuberdi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The overview is as follows.

1. At the outset, Minister Motegi expressed his pleasure at holding a meeting with Minister Tleuberdi, following their foreign ministers’ telephone talk in May and the Foreign Ministers’ Special Video Teleconference Meeting of the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue in August. With regard to the COVID-19 response, Minister Motegi expressed Japan’s intention to continue working with Kazakhstan to overcome current difficult situation, noting Japan’s provision of Avigan tablets, the teleconference meeting held among medical experts, and coordination work for the extension of grant aid for the provision of health and medical equipment.
In response, Minister Tleuberdi congratulated Minister Motegi on his reappointment as Foreign Minister and expressed his deep appreciation for the various assistance from Japan.

2. The Ministers confirmed cooperation toward holding the 12th World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference to be hosted by Kazakhstan next year and toward the next Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue to be hosted by Japan. In addition, the Ministers shared the view on further strengthening the bilateral strategic partnership relationship.
