Japan-Saudi Arabia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting


On November 22, commencing at around 2:18 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with H.H. Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who is visiting Japan to attend the G20 Aichi-Nagoya Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
1. Minister Motegi stated, “I welcome your visit to Japan. I am happy to be able to meet you for the first time. I would like to cooperate with you for strengthening the bilateral relationship.” In response, Minister Faisal stated, “I would like to extend my gratitude for Japan’s hosting of the G20 Aichi-Nagoya Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. The bilateral relation with Japan is of great importance and I would like to continue our cooperation to further develop the relation.”
2. The two Ministers confirmed that they will cooperate for the success of the G20 Aichi-Nagoya Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on the following day and of the G20 Summit in Riyadh next year. The Ministers also shared the view on further enhancing their bilateral relationship through the Japan-Saudi Vision 2030 (PDF) framework and other channels.
3. Amid the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, the Ministers exchanged views regarding the regional situation and agreed on coordinating closely toward easing tensions and stabilizing the situation in the Middle East. In this context, Minister Motegi conveyed, “I appreciate the mediation effort by Saudi Arabia to achieve the Riyadh Agreement between the Government of Yemen and the South Transitional Council.”
