Japan-Brunei Foreign Ministers’ Meeting



On October 21, commencing at around 11 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof, Minister of Foreign Affairs II of Brunei Darussalam. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
1. Minister MOTEGI stated that he looked forward to strengthening their bilateral relationship and working with Brunei toward achieving peace and stability in the region. In response, Minister Erywan conveyed his intention to continue cooperating with Japan for further deepening their bilateral relations. Minister Erywan also conveyed a message of condolences and sympathy for the victims and survivors of Typhoon Hagibis.
2. Both Ministers confirmed that the two countries will continue their cooperation in areas such as Brunei’s economic diversification.
3. Both Ministers also exchanged views regarding regional affairs including the South China Sea, and shared the view on continuing their close coordination. In addition, Minister MOTEGI sought cooperation and understanding towards the early resolution of the abduction issue.
