Japan-Brunei Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On August 2, commencing at about 1:50 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof, Minister of Foreign Affairs II, Brunei Darussalam during his visit to Thailand to attend the ASEAN-related Foreign Ministers’ Meetings. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Minister Kono stated that he welcomed the continued high-level exchanges between the two countries after the inauguration of the direct flights between the two countries commenced in March. In response, Minister Erywan stated that he would like to continue cooperation for further development of the bilateral relations.
- Minister Kono sought cooperation regarding the swift removal of import restrictions on Japanese food products imposed after the Great East Japan Earthquake and the two ministers agreed to continue their consultations on the issue.
- The two ministers exchanged views on the regional issues including North Korea and the South China Sea, and agreed to continue to work closely together.
