Meeting between State Minister Sato and the State Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Sudan


On October 7, commencing at around 11:25 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. Masahisa Sato, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, met with Mr. Osama Faisal Elsayed Ali, State Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Sudan, who visited Japan to attend the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
1. In opening statements, State Minister Sato sincerely welcomed State Minister Osama Faisal’s attendance at the TICAD Ministerial Meeting. He noted that Japan places importance on the constructive role that Sudan plays in the region as a major regional power, and highly appreciated the contribution made by Sudan in recent efforts to promote peace in South Sudan.
2. State Minister Sato stated that Japan will continue to provide assistance for Sudan’s development centering on the areas of peace-building, basic human needs (BHN), industrial diversification and agricultural development. He added to say that Japan will support Sudan’s efforts to accede to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
3. State Minister Osama Faisal expressed his appreciation for Japan’s assistance to Sudan, including technical cooperation and noted his hopes for investment in Sudan by Japanese companies. He also stated that Sudan emphasizes the policy dialogue with Japan and promised Sudan’s close cooperation towards TICAD 7 next year.
4. In addition, the two Ministers compared notes regarding their cooperation in the international arena including the North Korea situation and UN Security Council’s reform.
