Meeting between State Minister Sato and the Secretary of State in charge of Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Union of Comoros

On October 7, commencing at around 9:05 a.m. for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. Masahisa Sato, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, met with the Hon. Djoumoi Said Abdallah, Secretary of State in charge of Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Union of Comoros, who is visiting Japan to attend the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
1. In opening statements State Minister Sato sincerely welcomed Secretary Djoumoi’s attendance at the TICAD Ministerial Meeting and also touched upon his own visit to Comoros in August. He also stated that Japan wishes to further strengthen bilateral relations, based on the Japan-Comoros Foreign Ministers’ Joint Press Statement that was issued in February at the time of the visit to Japan by H.E. Mr. Mohamed El Amine Souef, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and the Francophonie, in charge of Comorians abroad.
2. State Minister Sato also noted that Japan would provide food assistance to contribute to improving food security in Chad, and assistance to improve mother and child nutrition. He also stated that Japan will provide assistance for the development of inspection facilities that will engage in quality assurance activities relating to the status of food hygiene, etc.
3. In response, Secretary Djoumoi expressed appreciation for Japan’s assistance to Comoros, and noted that Comoros will continue to focus on development in sectors such as health, education and fisheries. He also promised cooperation towards TICAD 7 next year.
4. In addition, the two Ministers held an exchange of views regarding cooperation in the international arena including the North Korea situation and Security Council reform.
