On October 7, commencing at 6:25 p.m. for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with H.E. Mr. Luis Filipe Lopes Tavares, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Communities and Minister of Defense of the Republic of Cabo Verde, who is visiting Japan for the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

1. At the outset, Minister Kono wholeheartedly welcomed Minister Tavares’ participation in the TICAD Ministerial Meeting, expressed congratulations for the success of the Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa (CPLP) meeting held in July, and stated that although he could not attend the meeting he hopes to visit Cabo Verde soon.

2. Furthermore, Minister Kono referenced Japan’s recent support in the field of disaster prevention, and indicated that Japan would provide food assistance to improve food security.

3. Minister Tavares expressed gratitude for Japan’s support for Cabo Verde so far, and indicated his expectations for continued Japanese support for fields such as electricity and disaster prevention. In addition, he invited Minister Kono to visit Cabo Verde.

4. In addition, both ministers held an exchange of views regarding cooperation in the international arena.
