The 8th meeting of the Japan - France Nuclear Cooperation Committee

1. The 8th Japan - France Nuclear Cooperation Committee was held on November 21st 2018 in Paris under the joint chairmanship of Tomoyuki Yoshida, Ambassador, Director-General, Disarmament, Non-Proliferation and Science Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and François Jacq, General Administrator of the CEA.

2. The participants exchanged views on their respective nuclear energy policies, nuclear safety cooperation, back-end of the fuel cycle including the spent fuel management, final waste management and repository, nuclear research and development including fast neutron reactors, decommissioning and environmental remediation, as well as industrial cooperation. The participants also shared their strong appreciation of the Japan - France cooperation in the area of civil nuclear energy and their intention to continue and reinforce it.

3. The Committee shared views on the importance of the highest standards of nuclear safety and security and non- proliferation, while promoting nuclear energy and nuclear related technologies in the world.

4. The next meeting will be held in 2019 in Japan.
