MIRAI Program・2018 1st Group (Western Balkans)

1. From October 31st to November 7th, 18 youths from the Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia) will visit Japan as members of the first group of MIRAI Program 2018 (Theme: Western Balkans), promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

2. The first group will visit various sites in Tokyo, Hiroshima and Kyoto during their stay in Japan. In Tokyo, the participants will exchange views with Japanese students at Sophia University in addition to the visit to JICA Global Plaza. In Hiroshima, they will visit the Peace Memorial Park, listen to stories of hibakusha (survivors of the atomic bombing) and learn the realities of the atomic bombing. The participants will also experience traditional Japanese culture in Kyoto. On November 6th, the last day of the program, they will hold a final reporting session to the Ambassador in charge of the Western Balkans at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

3. This program is a part of the Western Balkans Cooperation Initiatives, which Prime Minister Abe announced in January this year, promoting mutual understanding between Japan and the Western Balkans as well as among different ethnic groups in the region. This program is implemented in cooperation with the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO), established as an outcome of the Berlin Process which relevant countries in Europe such as Germany initiates.

4. Through the program, the participants are expected to deepen their understanding of Japan and actively deliver messages about their experiences in Japan even after they return to their own countries.
