Japan-Canada Joint Economic Committee

1. On June 14, 2018, the 28th Japan-Canada Joint Economic Committee will be held in Tokyo, Japan.

2. The meeting will be attended by Mr. Kazuyuki Yamazaki, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Mr. Timothy Sargent, Deputy Minister of International Trade as respective Co-Chairs, and officials of relevant ministries of the both countries. In addition, Mr. Kimihiro Ishikane, Ambassador of Japan to Canada and Mr. Ian Burney, Ambassador of Canada to Japan, will also attend the meeting. Furthermore, from the perspective of enhancing participation by private sectors, a session attended by private sectors from the both countries will also be held.

3. The meeting will be convened on the basis of the meeting between Prime Ministers of Japan and Canada in May 2016, where the leaders concurred to modernize the Japan-Canada Joint Economic Committee. Following the 27th JEC meeting held in October 2016, the discussion will focus on priority areas of cooperation, including infrastructure, energy, science and technology cooperation, improving business environment and promoting investment, as well as tourism and youth exchanges.
