The 12th Japan-Iran Director-General Consultation / The Steering Committee of the 2nd Japan-Iran Cooperation Council

1. The 12th Japan-Iran Director-General Consultation / the Steering Committee of the 2nd Japan-Iran Cooperation Council was held in Tokyo on February 23.

2. This Consultation was attended by Mr. Hiroshi Oka, Director-General, Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and H.E. Mr. Mahmoud Farazandeh, Director General, Department of East Asia & Oceania, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The two sides exchanged the views on the nuclear agreement, bilateral relations as well as the regional situations in the Middle East and East Asia.

Foreign Ministers of Japan and the Islamic Republic of Iran concurred to establish Japan-Iran Cooperation Council in order to supervise a wide variety of bilateral cooperation when Mr. Fumio Kishida, the then Former Minister for Foreign Affairs, visited Iran in October 2015. The Japan-Iran Cooperation Council consists of the working groups on such areas as environment, economic cooperation, trade and investment, and healthcare, and the steering committee that oversees all the working groups.
