Japan-Iran Relations

On 6th and 7th June, Mr. Tsukasa Uemura, Director-General, Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau, from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and Mr. Mahmoud Farazandeh, Director General, Department of East Asia and Oceania, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran held the 11th Meeting of Japan-Iran Director-General Consultation/the first Steering Committee of Japan-Iran Cooperation Council. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

1 The both sides confirmed to promote cooperation in order to dramatically expand Japan-Iran relations, seizing the opportunity created by the implementation of the JCPOA.

2 The both sides reviewed the progress of the different working groups in areas such as economy, economic cooperation, environment and healthcare, which have taken place between respective authorities of both countries since the establishment of the Japan-Iran Cooperation Council, and exchanged views on concrete actions towards future deepening of cooperation.

3 The both sides exchanged views on the current situation in the Middle East and East Asia.

This Director-General Talk is positioned as the Steering Committee of the Japan-Iran Cooperation Council (PDF)  which both sides concurred to establish when Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, visited Iran in October last year.
