The Fifth Japan-Myanmar Human Rights Dialogue

1. The Fifth Japan-Myanmar Human Rights Dialogue was held on Tuesday, February 6 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.

2. The dialogue was led respectively by Mr. Masato Ohtaka, Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Policy Bureau, Ambassador in charge of UN affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Mr. Myint Thu, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

3. During the dialogue, both countries exchanged views on human rights situations in both countries, including the situation in Rakhine State and the peace process with the ethnic minorities in Myanmar. The delegations also discussed Japan’s capacity building assistance to Myanmar and cooperation in the area of human rights in the international arena.
