Foreign Minister Kono Receives a Courtesy Call from the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East


On January 24, commencing at 11:45 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Mr. Pierre Krähenbühl, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, who is visiting Japan. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows.
1. Minister Kono expressed concern over the situation surrouding the Palestine refugees. He stated that UNRWA’s activity was crucial not only for the Palestine refugees but also for the stabilization of the Middle East. He also expressed Japan’s determination to keep providing possible support to UNRWA.
2. In response, Commissioner-General Krähenbühl showed gratitude for the support from Japan, explained the presentsituation surrounding the Palestine Refugees and UNRWA, and expressed hope to receive continued support from Japan.
